Amy Lee Ruble Wright

Wright AmyAmy Lee Ruble Wright, 81, of Bedford, died Tuesday, June 5, 2018. She was born in Russell County, VA on May 24, 1937, a daughter of the late James David Ruble, Jr. and Virginia Kitts Ruble Webber. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Roger Wright, Jr.; daughter, Janet Lee Tomlinson; and step-father, James A. Webber. Amy was employed as a teacher’s aide with the City of Lynchburg School System, Blair Marketing Co, Inc. (telemarketing), and Centra Lynchburg General Hospital ER as a patient advocate. She was a member of Park View United Methodist Church and Harrison Colony Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved her family, music, plants, old movies, Elvis, and above all God. She had a rapier wit with a very down to earth matter of fact personality. Amy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a steadfast loyal friend that was loved by everyone that knew her. She is survived by her children, Clarence Roger Wright III and fiancé Sharon Staton, Jennie Wright Spradlin and husband Tony, Brenda Wright; son-in-law, Payton L. Tomlinson Jr.; grandchildren, Jason Tomlinson, Brandon Tomlinson, Daniel Tomlinson, Heather S. Harris, Palmer Tomlinson, Ashley Tomlinson, Mickenzie Tomlinson, Brittany Spradlin, Skyler Spradlin,; great-grandchildren, Ashley Desmond, Ariel Tomlinson, Caden Tomlinson, Caspian Tomlinson, Evie Tomlinson and Luna Harris. The family would like to thank Dr. John Williams and staff at CVFP, Bedford Adult Day Care Center (all the staff has been wonderful), Centra Bedford ICU staff, and the staff of Bedford Hospice. A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 9, at Burch-Messier Walnut St. Chapel, 1235 Walnut St, Bedford with Chaplain Justin Brown officiating. A burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Mary Antionette Sciarabba Basile

Basile MaryMary Sciarabba Basile, 95, of Huddleston, died Monday, June 4, 2018. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 13, 1922, a daughter of the late Rosario Sciarabba and Guiseppina Dignoti Sciarabba. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Angelo James “Charlie” Basile; and her sister, Frances Desimone. She is survived by her sons, Philip Basile and wife, Betty; Robert Basile and wife Jane; grandchildren, Eric Basile and wife Virginia, Nancy Basile, David Basile and wife Misty, Andrew Basile; great-grandchildren, Vincent Basile, Owen Basile, Lewis Basile, Dylan Basile; sister, Lilie Bongiorno; and two nieces. A Mass of Resurrection will be said 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, June 7, at Resurrection Catholic Church, 15353 Moneta Road, Moneta, VA with Father Salvador Añonuevo officiating. Rosemarie Catherine Carnall Manning

Manning RosemarieRosemarie Carnall Manning, 76, of Bedford, died Saturday, June 2, 2018. She was born in Trenton, NJ on August 13, 1941, to the late William Louis Carnall and Suzanna Lena Umstead. She was predeceased by her husband, Russell Lowell Manning, and her brothers, Billy and Freddy. She is survived by her children, Maureen Lyons (Greg), Erin Manning, and Patrick Manning, and by her six grandchildren. Rosemarie loved and was fiercely protective of her family and friends. She made friends easily and for life. She would not want this announcement to be overlong, so it isn’t. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 11, 2018at Windsor Hills United Methodist Church, 3591 Windsor Road, Roanoke, VA 24018, with Rev. Doug Paysour officiating. Mary "Jimmie" Gardner St Clair

StClair MaryMary “Jimmie” Gardner StClair, 98, of Bedford died Friday, June 01, 2018. She was born in Bedford County on January 28, 1920, a daughter of the late Harry Gardner and Claudie Mae Falls Gardner. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, John Henry StClair; daughter, Patricia StClair Ramey; sisters, Martha, Louise, Gladys, Rebecca, and Lois, brothers, Edward, Boyd, Fred, Harry, and Robert. Mary retired from Rubatex after 19 years of service and she also worked at Ben Franklin. She is survived by her grandson, Kirk Ramey; sister, Margaret Ward; many nieces and nephews including, Doris Williams, Wanda Janz and husband Todd; sisters-in-law, Fannie Gardner and Mary Gardner. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 5, at Burch-Messier Funeral Home, 317 W. Main St., Bedford, with Rev. Earl Ragland officiating. A burial will follow in Greenwood cemetery. Victor Hugo Ferrufino

Ferrufino VictorVictor Hugo Ferrufino, 70, passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in Bedford, Virginia. He was born in Oruro, Bolivia, a son of the late Walter Ferrufino and Carmela Rojas. He worked at Bedford Weaving Mills for 35 years. Victor loved watching and playing sports and spending time with his family in Indiana and Bolivia. He is survived by his daughter, Stephani (Jason) Hoy of Columbus, Indiana; three grandchildren, Calvin, Connor, and Charlotte; one sister, Luz Virginia Ferrufino Rojas de Torrico; one brother, Walter Gaston Ferrufino Rojas, both of Oruro Bolivia; as well as a nephew, many nieces, other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on 10:00 a.m., on Friday, June 8, Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church Father Salvador Añonuevo officiating. Thomas Albert Charlton

Charlton ThomasThomas Albert Charlton passed away quietly on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at the age of 74. He was born in Welch, WV to John and Ruby Charlton. Tom is survived by his daughter, Yvonne Brashear; his son and daughter-in-law, John and Lisa Charlton; and three grandchildren: Sabrina Paige Brashear, Nick Charlton, and Alex Charlton. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, John Charlton of Welch, WV and Ruby Charlton of Bedford VA. At Tom’s request, no public funeral services will be held. The Charlton-Brashear family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Centra Hospice Services for their attentiveness and compassionate care. Jason Lee Caldwell

Caldwell JasonJason Lee Caldwell passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018, after a lengthy illness. He grew up and resided in Newport News, VA until 2015 when he moved to Lynchburg VA. He was happily married to the love of his life, Cassandra (Sandy) Hengl-Caldwell. He was a loving husband, son, father and brother. Jason was preceded in death by his father, George (Tommy) Caldwell, and his sons Christopher Caldwell and David Caldwell. He is survived by his wife, Cassandra (Sandy) Hengl-Caldwell, his mother, Brenda Caldwell, his son, Jason Caldwell, Jr., his brothers, Thomas (Tommy) Caldwell and wife Tiffany, and Michael (Myke) Caldwell and wife Jennifer, stepsons, Gage Light and Lennon Dickens, and stepdaughter, Brooklyn Hengl. He also leaves aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends who will miss him greatly and cherish his memory tremendously. His smile, laugh and sense of humor will never be forgotten. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1, at Parkview Baptist Church, 604 Hilton Blvd, Newport News, VA. Marlene Theresa Delorme Champagne

Champagne MarleneMarlene Delorme Champagne, 85, of Bedford, VA, was born into Life Eternal, Tuesday, May 22, 2018. She was born in Burlington, VT on February 26, 1933, a daughter of the late, Alfred Delorme and Irene Coursey Delorme. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, George Bernard Champagne; and daughter, Patty Ann Champagne, her siblings and a niece and nephew. She is survived by her sons, David Champagne and wife, Debbie; Dennis Champagne and wife, Terry; Bobby Champagne and wife, Lise; Michael Champagne and wife, Becky; ten grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and one great great grandson. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2018 at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church with Father Salvador Añonuevo celebrating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Mass and from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut Street. Ruth Ann Littlefield LeRoy

LeRoyRuthRuth Ann LeRoy (Littlefield), known by friends and family as "Ducky" passed away peacefully at her home in Union Hall, VA on Smith Mountain Lake on May 21, 2018 at the age of 82. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Ruth graduated from Jamestown Business College and worked at Marlin-Rockwell Corporation, where she met her husband, Gordon, of 62 years. She grew up in the Allegheny Mountain region (Porkey, Pennsylvania), attending a one room schoolhouse and enjoyed hiking "to the rocks", swimming in the "crick" and authored a book "Somewhere in Time....Porkey, PA." She loved spending time with her family on Loon Lake where she enjoyed fishing, swimming and boating. Every year she spent summers at the lake just to see her grandchildren. Her other interests included playing cards, Scrabble, Mahjong, marbles, cross country skiing, bowling, ceramics, and Newcomer's Club. Some of her happiest times were spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ruth will be forever remembered by her husband, Gordon and their children, Robert (Elizabeth), Thomas (Diane), and Pamela (Joseph); grandchildren Kyle (Amanda), Christine (Travis), Ryan (Mary), Mitchell (Ariel), Kimberly, Samantha and Thomas; great-grandchildren Ruby, Peter, Liam, Owen, Agnes, and Mia. A private celebration of her life will be held in June 2018. Adelheid "Polly" Roakes

Roakes AdelheidAdelheid (Polly) Roakes, age 81, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2018. She was born November 20, 1936 in Krames-Klausen, Germany to Anna Maria and Matthias Thul. She came to the United States in 1959 with her husband and two daughters. She was a long time successful real estate agent in Richmond and Lynchburg. In 2001, she received a bilateral lung transplant at Duke University Hospital. She loved watercolor painting, singing in local choir, knitting, and traveling. Adelheid leaves behind her loving husband of 60 years, Wayne L. Roakes; her daughters, Susan Roakes, of Memphis, TN and Sally Wilson and her husband, Kendall Wilson, of Alexandria, VA; grandsons Isaac Wilson of Park City, Utah, Nathan Wilson of Washington, DC, and Eli Buncick-Roakes of Memphis, TN. She leaves her sister and brother, Ursula Kramer and Bernhard Thul of Krames-Klausen, Germany, and brother Winfried Thul of Daun, Germany and many nephews and nieces.
