Maude Dallas Howell Overstreet

Maude Howell Overstreet, 89, of Moneta, died Friday, April 5, 2019. She was born in Bedford County on March 22, 1930, a daughter of the late Spicer J. Howell and Opal Ferguson Howell. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Rodney Overstreet, Sr.; son, William Rodney Overstreet, Jr.; sisters, Lillian Cheek and Lucille Ayers. Maude was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Eric Overstreet; daughter, Beverly O. McGuire; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut Street, Bedford, with Rev. Wayne Sellers officiating. A burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel. Cortrina Robin Andrews Johnson

Cortrina Andrews Johnson, 56, of Big Island, died Sunday, March 24, 2019. She was born in Lynchburg, VA on December 6, 1962 a daughter of Elsie Goff Andrews and the late David Andrews. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Davis Johnson, Jr. Cortrina was a Certified Nursing Assistant, loved to cook, and loved her family. She also loved her dogs, Harley, Daisie Mae, Wyoming, Mollie Ann, and Hunter. In addition to her mother she is survived by a daughter, Ashley Johnson; mother-in-law, Martha Hatter; brother-in-law, Ho-Ho Johnson; and numerous other family and friends. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Hunting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Phil Kelley officiating. Donald Walter Morgan

Donald Walter Morgan, 81, of Bedford, died Friday, March 22, 2019. He was born in Ironto, VA on May 7, 1937, a son of the late Donald Earl Morgan and Garnett Garlick Morgan. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and he was a retired truck driver. Donald is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Patricia Gross Morgan; son Mark Morgan; daughter, Vanessa Morgan; brother, Ellis “Pete” Morgan; granddaughter, Devan Yountz and husband Bobby; great-granddaughter, Addison Yountz; special fishing buddy, David Newman; special friend, Pete Reese; and several nieces and nephews. Joy Marcia Canada Faust

Joy Marcia Canada Faust, 62, of Madison Heights, died Thursday, March 21, 2019. She was born in Lynchburg, VA on May 7, 1956, the daughter of Sarah Hawkins Hewlett and the late Pete Holmes Canada. Joy was a special education teacher for Bedford County Public Schools and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. In addition to her mother she is survived by her husband, Thomas Gregory Faust; step-son, Christopher Faust (Samantha); brothers, David Holmes Canada, Kevin Berkeley Canada; sisters-in-law, Regina Archer (Chester), Patricia Schlomer (Lester); grandchildren, Carmen Faust, Kenneth Faust, Bailey Faust, Shawn Faust, and Makayla Ragland; special friends, Debra Burks, Debra Woodson; and numerous other family and friends; beloved dog Henry. Ruby Ellen Key Craghead

Ruby Ellen Key Craghead passed away peacefully with her family by her side into the arms of her heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 20, 2019. Mama died on Daddy’s birthday and a celebration of her life will be held on her baby girl’s birthday, Sunday, March 24th at Peaks Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Danny Holdren officiating.   Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Ruby was born on October 12, 1924 in Bedford County, eldest daughter of the late Jimmie Tooms Key and Alma Meador Key. Ruby attended Madison College and taught school for two years, but retired from the Bedford County Extension Service and was a lifetime member of Peaks Church, living each day in faithful service to our Lord Jesus Christ. She was the organist at Peaks for several years and also played violin in the Bedford Orchestra. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel Ray Craghead, her eldest daughter, Rebecca Craghead Nance, her brothers, G.H. (Buzzy) and James Key. Mama loved her family and left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Patricia C. McCauley and her husband, John, her grandsons, Samuel A. McCauley and Callie; Jason R. McCauley and his wife, Sarah, her sister, Margaret K. Campbell, her son-in-law, Parker Nance; her sister-in-law, Peggy D. Key and all her loving nieces and nephews. She also leaves a special daughter, Sharon Fisher; a son, James R. Craghead and his wife, Kaye; their children, Kyle and his wife, TLC and their children, Everly and Meara; Lucy Craghead and James Craghead; and a granddaughter, Meagan Reardon. Mama grew up as the eldest child, milking cows and farming until her siblings got old enough to help as well, she picked apples and made the best applesauce around. And when Mama had fried chicken, no matter what piece you got, it was all good. She enjoyed and had one of the prettiest yards with Daddy in Bedford County with all their flowers, rhododendron and azaleas. She is survived by her sons, Rodney Stephens, Wyatt Valora; daughters, Debra Humphreys, Victoria Valora; sisters, Evelyn Marler, Louise Hancock, Maxine Smith, Betty Roark; brothers, Earl Roark, Clarence Roark, Thurman Roark; thirteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was born on September 19, 1932, a daughter of the late William Lynwood New and Sally Zimmerman New. She is preceded in death by her sons, Donald Ray Webster, Mark Lowell Webster; sisters, Emma Holdren, Betty New; and brother, Larry New. She is survived by her loving husband, Bennie Wolford; daughter, Gina W. Sneed and husband Tim; daughters, Teresa Overstreet and husband David, Vicky Wolford and Bobby, Tammy Overstreet and husband Paul; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jennie Wilson and husband Melvin; numerous friends, nieces and nephews; and special caretaker, Betty Davis. Frances Virginia Ruff Stevens

Stevens FranFrances Virginia Ruff Stevens, 76, of Bedford died Friday, February 15, 2019. Fran was born in Bedford March 31, 1942 a daughter of the late Otis Ruff and Lillie Orange Ruff. In addition to her parents Fran was also preceded in death by one brother Arthur B. Ruff; two sisters Margaret Ruff Overstreet, Doris Ruff Dooley. Fran worked for Rubatex for 34 years and she was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed being with her family. Fran is survived by her husband of 50 years Harry Gene Stevens; one son Reggie Stevens; one step-son Byran Stevens; one sister Myrtle Ruff Phillips; and numerous other family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 18, 2019 at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut Street, Bedford with Pastor Earl Ragland officiating. Judith Gale Webb Johns

Johns JudithJudith Webb Johns, 66, of Lynchburg passed away Monday 2-11-19, peacefully at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Ruth Webb, sister to the late Kenneth Webb, survived by sister Joyce Bradel (Robert), children Lois Camden (Tracy), Gene Evans (Holly), grandchildren Lauren, Jessica, Sammy Jo and Heath, three great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. At her request, a funeral service will not be held.  The immediate family will honor her memory and her requests in a future celebration of life.
