Thomas Albert Charlton

Charlton ThomasThomas Albert Charlton passed away quietly on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at the age of 74. He was born in Welch, WV to John and Ruby Charlton. Tom is survived by his daughter, Yvonne Brashear; his son and daughter-in-law, John and Lisa Charlton; and three grandchildren: Sabrina Paige Brashear, Nick Charlton, and Alex Charlton. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, John Charlton of Welch, WV and Ruby Charlton of Bedford VA. At Tom’s request, no public funeral services will be held. The Charlton-Brashear family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Centra Hospice Services for their attentiveness and compassionate care. Jason Lee Caldwell

Caldwell JasonJason Lee Caldwell passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018, after a lengthy illness. He grew up and resided in Newport News, VA until 2015 when he moved to Lynchburg VA. He was happily married to the love of his life, Cassandra (Sandy) Hengl-Caldwell. He was a loving husband, son, father and brother. Jason was preceded in death by his father, George (Tommy) Caldwell, and his sons Christopher Caldwell and David Caldwell. He is survived by his wife, Cassandra (Sandy) Hengl-Caldwell, his mother, Brenda Caldwell, his son, Jason Caldwell, Jr., his brothers, Thomas (Tommy) Caldwell and wife Tiffany, and Michael (Myke) Caldwell and wife Jennifer, stepsons, Gage Light and Lennon Dickens, and stepdaughter, Brooklyn Hengl. He also leaves aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends who will miss him greatly and cherish his memory tremendously. His smile, laugh and sense of humor will never be forgotten. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1, at Parkview Baptist Church, 604 Hilton Blvd, Newport News, VA. Friends and guests are invited to stay for visitation with the family and refreshments after the service. Burch-Messier Funeral Home, Bedford, is assisting the family.

India Ramsey Jacobs

Jacobs IndiaIndia Ramsey Jacobs, 61, of North Chesterfield, VA, passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018, after a hard fought yet incredibly short battle with cancer. She was born in Bedford County on July 12, 1956, a daughter of the late Curtis E. Ramsey and Barbara Niday Ramsey. India’s smile brightened any room she walked into. She never met a stranger and loved making people laugh and eat, she was an amazing cook. She loved traveling and spending time with her family. Her happy place was always on the beach. She will be remembered by her daughter, Stephanie Scott; son, Nick Jacobs (Stephanie); two grandchildren, Logan and Callie Jacobs; brothers, Randal Ramsey (Deborah), John Ramsey (Donna); and a multitude of extended family and friends. The family would like to thank the nurses at the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at Johnston-Willis Hospital for their kindness and compassionate care of India over the last weeks of her life. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 9, at J.T. Morriss & Son Chester Chapel, 3050 W. Hundred Road, Chester, VA. 23831. Charles Robert Clatterbuck, Jr.

Charles Robert Clatterbuck Jr, 59, of Madison Heights, Virginia, passed away December 16, 2017. Charlie "Buck" lived life how he wanted and loved those around him. He was born November 21, 1958, in Albemarle County and proudly served in the US Marine Corps. He is survived by his son Christopher Clatterbuck. Mattie Susan Tuggle Williams

Mattie Susan Tuggle Williams, 85, of Rustburg passed away Friday, August 25, 2017. She was born June 3, 1932 to the late, John Howard Tuggle and Annie Elizabeth Tuggle. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husbands, Donald E. Williams Sr. and James Daniel Thompson; three sisters: Dolly Gilley, Bobbie Jean Morris and Billie Blackard: a grandson Michael Junior Flynn and a great grandson, Joshua Allan Williams. She is survived by a son; Donald E. Williams Jr. and wife Liz; a daughter, Kim Elizabeth Morrison; a brother, John Thomas Tuggle and wife Barbara; a sister, Joanna Conner and husband Whitt: three grandchildren, Randall Williams and wife Cindy, Stephanie Dabbs and Jayson Adcock; five great grandchildren, who loved their sweet granny; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Rustburg United Methodist Church. Charlie Revely Gunter

Charlie Revely Gunter, 86, of Gretna passed away Wednesday, August 9,2017. He was born July 11, 1931 to the late, Ernest Martin Gunter and Eula Mills Gunter.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Cora Mae Jacobs Gunter; a brother, Alvin Byrd Gunter and a companion of 21 years, Charlotte Love. Charlie was only a little over a year old when his mother passed. He was then raised by his grandmother; Susie Trent Mills, whom he loved dearly. Charlie is survived by two daughters; Cynthia Gunter Shields and husband, Tony, and Catherine Gunter Doss and husband, Robert; a brother, Ernest Martin Gunter, Jr. and step-sister, Dorine G. Graybill; four grandchildren, Elizabeth S. Smith and husband, Scott, Jared A. Shields and wife, Oshila and Mitchell C. Doss; two great grandchildren, Rayan A. Shields and Aiden E. Shields. Charlie graduated from Brookville High School in 1948.   He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He retired as a Virginia State Trooper after 36 years on the force. Charlie was a member and former deacon of The First Baptist Church of Gretna. He was a member of several different organizations: American Legion, Post 232 and 52 years with the Gretna Lions Club. The family would like to give a special thanks to his wonderful care giver Teresa Burnette. Those wishing to make memorial contributions may consider The First Baptist Church of Gretna. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at The First Baptist Church of Gretna.  Family will receive friends from 12:30 noon to 2:00 pm in the church social hall.  Service will begin at 2:00 pm in the sanctuary.  Family will be at Charlie’s residence and the home of his daughter Cindy Shields on Gallows Road. Dorothy Ann Chrzanowski Uryniak

Dorothy Ann Chrzanowski Uryniak, 97, of Roanoke, formally of Pittsfield, Massachusetts passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017. She was born in Webster, Massachusetts, on June 5, 1920, a daughter of the late Anthony Chrzanowski and Laura Demers Chrzanowski. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Stanley Uryniak; son Robert Uryniak; brother Edward Chrzanowski; and sister Alice Bialas.She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Moneta, Va. Dorothy worked for General Electric in Pittsfield, Mass. for several years and also work in the Rectory at St. Francis Catholic Church in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. She is survived by her daughter Shirley Spiewak and husband Lewis; three grandsons Stanley, Robert, and Timothy Spiewak; one sister-in-law Adeline Chrzanowski; and numerous other nieces, nephews, family and friends. Memorial donations can be made to Medi Home Health and Hospice, 5369 Peters Creek RD, Roanoke, VA 24019. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 19, at Resurrection Catholic Church, with Father Salvador Añonuevo celebrating. Earl Andrew Burley

   Earl Andrew Burley, 87, of Big Island passed away on July 1, 2015 at Avante    of Lynchburg.  He was born in Covington on October 30, 1927 to the late    Andrew Matt Burley and Blanche Dressler Burley.    He is preceded in death by three sisters; Helen Elois Smith, Dorothy Alice   Cauley and Francis Carol Smith.    He is survived by his wife, Doris Logwood Burley of 67 years.  Also surviving   him is a sister; Marion Burley Williams and husband Leroy (Willie) Williams,   numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and four special friends Kenneth Goff and   wife Gail, John Robert Rusher and Frankie Byers.    Earl retired from Owens Illinois (Big Island Paper Mill) after 32 years.  He was a member of Big Island Methodist Church. He had an honorable discharge from the navy.   A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2015 at Big Island Cemetery. Elsie Lorraine Tyree Steadman

Elsie Lorraine Tyree SteadmanElsie Lorraine Tyree Steadman, 85 of Lynchburg passed away peacefully at her residence on June 28, 2015.  She was the daughter of the late Lazarus Tyree and Eliza Stinnette Tyree.  She was preceded in death by three sisters; Louise Arrington, Trudy Meadows and Marion Wade; a brother; Lewis Tyree: a grandson; Justin Michael Tyree: a special friend Herbert Manley; and her husband Enoch Steadman. She is survived by a daughter and long-time caregiver, Lois Cyrus (Ronnie); two grandchildren, Jason and Whitney Gowen (Mike) of Lynchburg; seven great grandchildren; Hannah, Xavier, Alyssa, Caedmon, Jordan, Kierra and Kaidon; a special son in law, Jr. Gowen and numerous nieces and nephews. She is retired from First Colony Life Insurance Company and was a faithful member of Eternal Baptist Church.  She loved Jesus and her family and was always willing to help others. She will truly be missed by the many people who knew and loved her. The family wishes to thank Dr. John Williams and his staff for all their help and support along the years, as well as Centra Hospice for their compassion during such a devastating loss. John K. Raysor

John Kevin RaysorJohn K. Raysor, 44 of Lynchburg, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on June 28, 2015.  John is survived by and was the cherished husband of Tonya R. Raysor, loving father of Brittany, Lindsey and Celeste Raysor, Son of Robert and Kay Raysor,; beloved grandson of Virgil and Peggy Lester of Radford and step-father of Olivia, Camden and Meridith Rice.  He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Geneva D. Lester and his paternal grandparents Chalmers L. Raysor, Edna F. Raysor, and Fay Y. Raysor.  In life, John was an active member of Blue Ridge Community Church.  He also enjoyed riding motorcycles, kayaking, snowboarding and being outdoors.  He graduated from Lynchburg Christian Academy, had attended Liberty University and Central Virginia Community College and had served in the Army National Guard.  His love of life, wonderful personality, and smile will be missed by all who knew and loved him.  A memorial service will be held on July 10 at 6 pm at Blue Ridge Community Church in Evington.  Arrangements by Burch-Messier Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 317 W.
