Alva Ransom Hartbarger

Hartbarger AlvaAlva Ransom “AR” Hartbarger, 94, of Buena Vista, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, October 20, 2018. He was born in Kerrs Creek on March 16, 1924, a son of the late John Henry Hartbarger Sr. and Clara Morris Hartbarger. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Claude and John Jr. Hartbarger; and sisters, Frances Irvine and Jean Lilley. AR was retired from Lee’s Carpet/Burlington with 43 years of service. Alva was a World War II veteran; 3rd Army with the combat engineers. He served in England, France, Belgium, and Luxembourg and he participated in the Invasion of Normandy on Omaha Beach, Liberation of Paris, and the Battle of the Bulge. He is survived by his three sons, Larry Hartbarger (Beverly) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Lynn Hartbarger (Brenda) of Forest, and Dale Hartbarger (Cindy) of Buena Vista; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at Victory Baptist Church, 3700 Lombardy Ave., Buena Vista, VA with Rev. Dean Staton officiating. A burial will follow in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens with military honors. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels in Buena Vista. Carol Roark Valora, 67, of Appomattox, died Sunday, February 17, 2019. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Carol’s Cemetery, 6277 Bethany Road, Rustburg, VA.
