Thomas Gene Weeks, 81, of Bedford, died Tuesday, October 4, 2011 in Lynchburg General Hospital.  He was born in Bedford County on January 20, 1930 a son of the late Roy Thomas Weeks and Geneva Hawkins Weeks.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Billie Jean Hamm Weeks and a son, Jeffrey T. Weeks.  Gene was a lifelong member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church and was an Army veteran serving his country in Panama during the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of the Liberty Masonic Lodge # 95 AF/AM and a charter member of Bedford Moose Lodge #1897.  He is survived by his wife 46  years,  Edith James Weeks; three children, Kim Weeks Lucas;  David G. Weeks and wife, Donna; Douglas J. Weeks; four grandchildren, Jill Lipscomb, Josh Weeks, Jessica Weeks and C.J. Weeks; a sister, Catherine W. McGuire and husband, William. Memorials may be made to Bedford Presbyterian Church or the Bedford Life Saving Crew.  A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at Longwood Cemetery with Rev. John Salley officiating.  The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut Street, Bedford.
