Sallie Elizabeth Carter McGuire

Sallie Elizabeth Carter McGuire, 82, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, August 24, 2011.  She was born in Bedford County on Monday, April 19, 1929, the sixth child of William Ernest and Osie Maude Stinnett Carter.  Sallie was a long time member of Thaxton Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Leggett Department Store having worked in the men's department for many years.  She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings, Lula Williamson, Edgar Carter, Wink Carter, Cleo Frazier, and Roy Carter.  She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Seth E. McGuire, Jr. of the home, and their only child, Seth E. McGuire, III and his wife, Trish of Bedford, two grandsons she adored and was very proud of, Eric S McGuire and his wife, Kristin, of Davie, Florida, and Nicholas A. McGuire of Titusville, Florida.  She is also survived by a sister, Offie Karnes of Roanoke as well as several nieces and nephews and a host of McGuire Family in-laws. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Burch Messier Funeral Home (Main Street Location 317 W. Main Street).  A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday  at Burch Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut Street, Bedford,  with Dr. Eldridge Cullum officiating.  Burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery.    In lieu of flowers, it is requested that you either give a donation to Thaxton Baptist Church Building Fund or visit some lonely one with a flower in your hand and joy in your heart.  "If by chance, you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you.  If you do all I have asked, I will live forever."
