Joyce Ann Carter

Joyce Johnson Carter, 67, of Bedford, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 after a battle with cancer.  She was born in Bedford on February 13, 1944 a daughter of the late Hunter C. Johnson and Ethel Payne Johnson.   In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Hunter Johnson.  She was an Air Force veteran.  She is survived by her son, Mark Anthony Carter of Bedford; a brother, Philip Page Johnson of Roanoke; two nieces, Karen J. Hughes of Trinity, FL and Melanie J. Slate of Salem; a good friend, Mrs. Dorothy Lee.  Also thanks to the staff of 4- J and especially the staff of 2 -3 at the VA Medical Center in Salem for their compassionate care and treating her like family.  A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 1, 2011 at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut Street, Bedford, with Rev. Ronald D. Michaux officiating.  Burial will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut St. Bedford, 540-586-7360.
