Harold A. Sumner, 83, of Bedford, died Saturday, July 2, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Bedford on August 22, 1927 a son of the late Buford Marshall Sumner and Estelle Gillaspie Sumner. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Lura Adams; brothers, Jenning Sumner, Robert Sumner and Marshall Sumner. Harold was a Navy veteran serving in World War II. He is survived by a brother, Grady Sumner; two sisters, Peggy Branch and Reva Eubank; many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut Street; with military honors given following in Greenwood Cemetery by American Legion Post # 16. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut Street, Bedford, 540-586-7360
