Edith Creasy Hicks, 81, of Bedford, died Friday, January 27, 2012 at her residence.  She was born in Bedford County on August 18, 1930 a daughter of the late Nick L. Creasy and Annie Mae Sprouse Creasy.  Edith was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and was a retired Insurance agent working with Farm Bureau and Bedford Mutual.  She was active in the Bedford 4 H Pony Drill Team and was instrumental in the Ladies Farm Tour.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Loxley P. Creasy.  Edith is survived by her husband of 63 years, John Reid “Jack” Hicks, Jr. ; two sons, John N. Hicks and fiancée  Lisa White; Don R. Hicks and wife, Debie; two grandchildren, Edie Martin and husband, Joe; Nicholis R. Hicks and wife, Amanda; one great-granddaughter, Madlyn C. Martin; one step-great-grandson, Cole Hinnant; Special family members, Bobby Dill, Bill Dill, Sue Payne and Loxley “Brother” Creasy; special caregivers, Kathy Garraghty, Christy Witt, Dottie Ellis and Amanda Garraghty.  Memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church or Precept Schools of Virginia, 1987 Big Island Hwy.  Bedford, VA 24523.  A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2012 at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel  with Rev. Jack Davis officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Burch-Messier Walnut Street Chapel, 1235 Walnut St. Bedford, 540-586-7360
